Fun Ways to Teach Kids How to Brush their Teeth

Is it hard for you to convince your kids to brush their teeth? A fair number of children don’t grasp the importance of keeping their teeth clean, and so they neglect brushing them. Teaching your kids to brush their teeth, however, doesn’t have to be a chore when you could actually make it an enjoyable learning experience with these fun activities.

Practicing on a Model

Children take well to visual examples. Try getting your child to “brush” the teeth on a picture of a smiling mouth on a piece of white paper with paint as the toothpaste. You can also give them an idea of how to properly brush their teeth using an empty egg carton.

Race against the Time

The American Dental Association recommends brushing the teeth for two minutes, something you can encourage your child to do by setting a timer for two minutes and cheering him on until the timer expires.

Science Experiment

Immerse half of an egg in a plastic cup with toothpaste, then mark the dry side with an X and coat with nail polish. Leave it immersed in the toothpaste for four days, then submerge it in a cup of vinegar for 7 to 13 hours. You can relate their teeth to the egg not treated with toothpaste, which should encourage them to observe proper dental habits.
