Veneers
are one of the best restoration solutions for a pretty smile but unfortunately,
it can’t last forever. Their lifespan depends partly on how well you take care
of them so you have to do your part.
Brush and floss regularly
Even
if porcelain veneer’s glass-like nature protect it from stains, bacteria may
still affect it, especially if the veneer-less tooth adjacent to it is not
cleaned regularly.
Brush gently
Toothpaste
with coarse ingredients and hard-bristled toothbrushes can affect the
smoothness of your veneers. Plus hard brushing can weaken its anchor.
Avoid heavy biting pressures
Veneers
work for normal oral functions but extreme activities like ripping and tearing
hard objects/food, munching ice, chewing chicken bone or the bad habit of
grinding your teeth (bruxism) may cause it to fall off or break. If you are
into contact sports, make sure you wear a mouth guard.
Avoid gum disease
Certain oral diseases can cause the gums to
inflame and eventually recede. When your gums recede, the top of your veneers
will show, making it lose its natural look. You can avoid this by eating right,
practicing proper oral hygiene and seeing your dentist at the earliest onset of
symptoms, like gum bleeding and sensitivity.
