Dental
emergencies can happen at any given moment. These can be tooth cracks, loosened
tooth, or a completely knocked out tooth. These can be prevented by taking
precautions, such as wearing protective mouth gear when playing sports or
avoiding food that may harm or stain your teeth over time.
If
a tooth gets loosened or is pushed out of its position, go to a dentist right
away. Carefully try to keep the tooth aligned or in place. If you fracture a
tooth, you would need to rinse your mouth with warm water then grab an ice pack
to reduce the swelling. The dentist will be able to smoothen out minor
fractures by using a dental sandpaper disc. On the other hand, if there is
damage to the pulp, the tooth may still be restored if you take the matter to
the dentist right away. If you wait too long, the damage to the nerves may be
irreversible, and other options requiring more extensive treatment would be
necessary.
If
one of your teeth gets knocked out, immediately contact a dentist and set up an
emergency appointment. It is vital that you see a dentist within an hour of the
incident for the tooth’s best chance of survival. Remember to handle the tooth
by the crown and not by the root. Also, rinse the tooth gently in water to
remove any dirt.
