Proper
oral hygiene should start the moment a child’s first set of teeth
erupts. In fact, even before teeth eruption, the mother should
practice cleaning a child’s gums to prevent infection. The effects
of not having proper oral hygiene could lead to a rude awakening in
the form of cavities and toothaches.
It
also doesn’t help that kids usually associate dental visits with
pain, so they choose to keep mum about any sort of discomfort they
feel in their mouths rather than tell their parents about it, until
the toothache worsens.
This
is a concern of oral care professionals all over the country. To
encourage children to visit their dentists regularly, caring dental
professionals create a child-friendly and warm atmosphere in dental
offices. The dentists also instruct staff members to ensure a happy
and stress-free dental experience for the child, even during times of
emergency.
Tooth
and mouth injuries are fairly common among children, given the kids’
active and playful nature. When a child’s tooth accidentally gets
knocked out, the tooth should be recovered and preserved as best as
possible, and both the child and tooth should be taken immediately to
an emergency dentist for treatment.
Proper
dental hygiene is one of the things that parents have to teach their
children. Not only will this ensure better dental health in
adulthood, but it will also build confidence and discipline in the
children—two things that they need in life as they grow up.
