Regardless of the
purpose of your appointment with your
dentist, it is useful to come into your dentist’s office
prepared. Here are a few pointers to help you prep up.
Confirm the
appointment.
Confirm at least a day
in advance. Call up the clinic and confirm your attendance for
tomorrow, then get enough rest.
Clean up and avoid
sugar/caffeine-laden beverages and foods.
Avoid consuming sugary
beverages, sweet sugary snacks, and coffee just before your
appointment. Brush and floss your teeth beforehand, because a
dentist, even as he or she has seen them all, would appreciate a
clean mouth to start with.
Arrive early.
By doing so, you give
yourself enough time to complete pertinent forms, know the staff, and
relax a little bit.
Prepare pertinent
information and bring everything you might need.
Be ready to provide
your dentist a complete rundown of your medical history, along with
documents. If the visit coincides with your mealtime and you need to
take in a certain medication, be sure to bring them with you. The
last thing your dentist would want is to have you agitating for
something not related to the appointment itself.
Face your fears.
Dental scaredy-cat?
Find a way to ease your worries and anxiety; it will benefit both you
and your dentist during the procedure. If you can’t manage it, and
you feel you’re stressing out, your dentist should have something
to offer you to help you relax.
Schedule follow-ups.
Be sure to schedule a
follow-up appointment at your most convenient time before leaving the
clinic. This way, you don’t have to deal with it the next time, and
all you have to do is show up.
