Fans of the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother may remember an episode in the first season where Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) went to a dance club with his friends. However, as he drank beer it is revealed that he had a temporary crown installed earlier in the day– which triggered sheer amounts of pain because of the alcohol. Although he mysteriously recovered later in the episode, the incident does underline the dangers of not taking care of a temp crown. On the other hand, if the same thing does happen to you, you can still do something about it with your dentist’s help.
Your dental practitioner will suggest that you give them a call the moment something happens. Suppose the crown was jarred loose in some manner, you must head to the sink and plug the drain. Rinse off the crown with water then test fit the crown on the affected tooth. A change in bite may indicate the crown is out of position, so you will need trial and error to make it lock in.
Once the fitting is done, apply a small helping of denture cement into the crown and insert onto the designated tooth. You will have to bite down for roughly a minute to help the adhesive stick. Continue your regular routine but avoid sticky food in the run up to the appointment.
