Caring for your Kids’ Pearly-Whites

Your sweet little princess is gradually growing those healthy, pearly-white teeth, and as a parent, it is an important life milestone. As soon as you see them, you’re excited on how the teeth will make your daughter more beautiful as she reaches adolescence and into adulthood.
But wait! Maintaining those beautiful baby teeth until they further develop requires care, because of your kid’s age. Here are a few tips to properly care for the teeth during your child’s early years.

Your child’s first dental checkup is best done by the time the first tooth erupts (usually between the ages of 6 months to 1 year old), but not later than the latter. By this period, children should not be allowed to drink juice or other sweet liquids beyond actual mealtime because of the sugar content. The child’s saliva must be allowed time to clean the teeth of the sugar residue to prevent tooth decay. Controlling sweets is a vital practice in caring for your kid’s growing teeth.

When it comes to brushing, you can allow them to brush on their own for a short time; but ensure that they’re doing a proper job (best done until age 4.) Use a child-sized toothbrush with soft bristles, and pea-sized amount of toothpaste. One way to make brushing engaging is by turning it into a game – like ‘find the hidden teeth’, wherein your kid tries to brush those deeper teeth rows.
