How to Deal with Common Dental Emergencies

No matter how careful you are with your teeth, you are still as vulnerable to dental emergencies as anyone. Listed below are some of the most common dental ruts and some pointers on how to deal with them before seeing a dentist.

Knocked Out Tooth
Your teeth is one of the toughest parts of your body; yet, trauma to the mouth can knock them out (a common incident in contact sports). Pick up the tooth by the crown and put it in a glass of milk to preserve it. If you can see a dentist within an hour, reinsertion of the tooth is still possible.

Lost Filling
Tooth fillings are used to patch up holes caused by plaque and bacteria, but wear and tear might cause them to come off. When this happens, use a piece of sugarless gum to cover the area then see a dentist immediately.

Broken Brace Wires
Broken brace wires can injure the delicate cavity walls. For the time being, wrap the tip of the broken wire with cotton or gauze until a dental appointment can be made.

As with any emergency, it is important to stay calm and alert to ease the discomfort. Furthermore, should you encounter these and other dental emergencies, don’t hesitate to visit a dentist as soon as possible.
